What is EYFS?

It stands for EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

It is the new guidelines for caring and educating children from birth to the 31st August after their 5th birthday,  in  England, monitored and inspected by Ofsted. The same requirements are to be met by schools, nurseries, playgroups, daycare and childminders if they are on the Early Years register.

The CHILDCARE REGISTER is for the benefit of children in childcare settings from 1st September following their 5th birthday up to aged 8 on a compulsory basis and children 8 and over on a voluntary basis.

 EYFS themes and principles

This is split into four keys areas:-

Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
